I am now halfway through my preparation for this 10k.
Yesterday, I ran 4.5 miles. I ran up my driveway and back and then up again and finally back home. This run was appropriately titled a “long run.” Boy, was it long!
A long run gives you the time to just run and think. I didn’t think about how many miles I had to do and how long it was going to take. Four and a half miles is not a 10K, but yesterday it felt like it. I had time to think about my why. Why did I want to run a 10K (6.2 miles)? Why not just do a 5K? I know that I could do that and be successful. When I planned goals for 2019, l decided to do two 10Ks in an attempt to prepare myself for a half marathon next year and subsequently a marathon. 26.2 miles!! Aargh! The idea scares me. And yet I trudge on.
I thought about this journey and the scripture of love I quote below. If I can walk in this new life of love that I’ve received, then this journey I’m on is worth it. I want to be able to dress in this clothing. I want to be the person who demonstrates forgiveness the way that God forgave me and continues to forgive over and over again.
So, what does this have to do with anything? This is my journey. I am determined to complete it, having grown in a way that makes God smile.
So chosen by God for this new life of love, dress in the wardrobe God picked out for you: compassion, kindness, humility, quiet strength, discipline. Be even-tempered, content with second place, quick to forgive an offense. Forgive as quickly and completely as the Master forgave you. And regardless of what else you put on, wear love. It’s your basic, all-purpose garment. Never be without it. Col 3:12-14 MSG
